Each year the Potter presents around 14 curated exhibitions over 3 levels and more than 900 square meters of gallery space. Through major career surveys, collection-based exhibitions and contemporary projects, we offer audiences opportunities to reflect, debate, enquire and learn. We work to promote the exchange of projects, ideas and practices between artists, curators, writers, the university and members of the larger community both here and overseas.
Based on new research and collaboration, our curated program presents exhibitions of historical and contemporary art. We avoid received wisdoms and deliver new perceptions of art history and culture, approaching culture as something open and dynamic, rather than given.
Our exhibitions examine the depth and diversity of artistic expression throughout the centuries, with an emphasis on Australian art of the twentieth century to the present day. During any one visit to the Potter, you could experience ancient artefacts, international indigenous culture, a contemporary art installation and major works of art by significant Australian artists of the past and present.
